During the summer of 2017 we started to design and make a much smaller (sub A5 footprint) robot chassis – for the clubs We had plenty of 3mm MDF sheets and easy access to laser cutters – so it seemed ideal that we begin trials of a new more compact design. The desire was to essentially build a chassis that was disposable, using cheap MDF sheets, and to try and eliminate most fixings needed to construct the chassis.
The result was a design that allowed us to bi-wire 4 6v motors to create a manoeuvrable 4WD robot – using skid (tank type steering). We held some initial trials in July, and are in the process of refining the design ready for Pi-Wars 2018.
Here are a couple of images of our new more compact design, we’ll be taking to Pi Wars next year.
